Q. I've used VPN in the past to access e-resources, but it isn't working now.

I have used VPN successfully in the past to get access to library e-resources from home. It has stopped working and I don't know why. How do I fix this?


In November 2012 Yale ITS made changes to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and how NetID's are administered. These changes have caused problems for some people accessing Library e-journals, e-books and databases when they are at home.

If you have received a notice from ITS that you will no longer have a Yale NetID and you think this is an error, you should contact ITS to request access (see the end of this message for more ITS contact information). 

If you are unsure if you are eligible for a NetID check here for more information about eligibility rules.

If you have a NetID, and you are now experiencing problems with VPN (for example, you might now see the message "Authentication failed"), there are steps you can take that should fix the problem. This problem seems to be prevalent in some Mac operating systems and mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads and Androids.
